If you’re planning to have a water garden or a fish shoal, you may wish to have a koi pond filter, one of the most valuable part of your garden pond. These pond appliances have many configurations, with price cost depending on its elaboration. You will need an aerator, a pump and a koi pond filter in your fish shoal. You can install the garden appliances within the pond or outermost, but choose discreetly because different types has their benefits and drawbacks.
The simplest type of koi pond filter is a basket filter. Depending on the design, you can place these either underwater or at the pond surface. These pond filters work by forcing the water through a net which captures larger debris and then returning the water to the pond. These filters are a basic necessity for any pond. Garden filters come in many types, but all of them are capable of removing debris of different sizes. Scour the basket filter every now and then to avoid the occurrence of clogging. This can be done according to the given schedule of your filter device provider.
A UV filter is one of the more advanced types of pond filters on the market. This garden pond filter prove that the old axiom “sunlight is the best disinfectant” is essentially true. Quite specifically, the radiation from the ultraviolet rays of sunlight effectively destroys different red algae and residues.
The pond filter exposes water quantities to the powerful UV rays which then neutralizes algae and small organisms that’s not good for your fish. This type of pond filter does require cleaning. After some time, you will have to take out the UV bulb housing for it may be encrusted with some grime, so you can ensure that the maximum possible amount of UV rays goes to the water which travels to the pump. These pumps generally take a small amount of water through them at a time. They would be a great embellishment for your garden pond but they can’t necessarily handle quantities of water that can sufficiently provide safe water in the whole pond.
Bacterial garden pond filter on the other hand uses good live organisms to purify the water from algae which preys on the fish and pond occupants. These pumps have to be primed with bacteria before they are set to work cleaning the fish pond water. Usually, they are re-primed frequently during the first few weeks of use, according to the manufacturer’s instructions and then at longer intervals thereafter. Bacterial filters works best against algae and other “pond scum” type pollutants. Switching on the particulate pond filter, like the basket filter, will give some long visible results. Cleaning up fouled water can take a long time to be cleaned by the bacterial filter and this make take some months. Install garden pond filters even before you notice problems of algae, the reason for this is to avoid the trouble of cleaning up a big mess once the plants got established.
The pond volume will have a significant effect on the results of any given type of filtration. Pond filters is not an area where you should cut corners, just to be sure. Filters need to have the capacity to filter half of the water volume of the pond in every hour. You should be able to foresee the situation where you have to spend more money if you wish to have an effective filtration technology. Even if this may seem to be extravagant, a good filtration can ensure the fish in your pond remains active and healthy.
