"Aquarium Accessories: Keep Your Fish and Friends Happy"

Remember the movie Nemo? The little guy was snatched right from his natural environment. In essence, that is what you are doing when you add fish to your aquarium.

Fish are people too so-to-speak and it is important to make their new home as "fish friendly" as humanly possible.

Aquarium accessories serve several purposes. They not only make your aquarium look nice and amuse your fish, but they also help keep the delicate environmental balance in check.

A good filtering system in your aquarium is a must. It will help remove damaging organisms from the water, especially fungus, which can cause infections to your fish. If your aquarium is salt water or a "marine" aquarium, you must regulate lighting and heating as well. Believe it or not, your fish also have a biological clock called a circadian rhythm which controls their patterns of sleeping and awakeness. You can check with your pet shop to see what they are so you can adjust the lighting accordingly.

Just as light is important to your aquarium and your fish, water temperature is equally important. Since most marine fish are caught off the coast of tropical countries, you will need to duplicate that environment.

Decorations are a good way not only to add color and life, but they can actually help maintain the environment. of your tank by distributing oxygen.

Things such as towers and caves allow your fish places to sleep and hide, thus helping to keep them relaxed. Grooves on these objects also help beneficial bacteria to grow. Some decorations double as oxygenators or filters. Just make sure to regularly clean them so harmful fungi don't have a chance to grow.

There are so many aquarium decorations to choose from on the market. Everything from fake sea creatures to skeletons and caves. These things can double as lighting control and filtering as well.

Again, make sure to clean your tank regularly and replace the water often. Make sure you buy aquarium accessories from reputable dealers. Your fish deserve to be happy in their new home.
